COURTYARD CONNECTIONS
THIRD YEAR - FALL SEMESTER - 2021
Courtyard Connections is about designing two additional units to add to an existing mid-century modern home in Mar Vista, Los Angeles. The topic of the semester was housing and the crisis that is arising in many places like LA. The project considers the impact of increasing the density of the neighborhood by assuming each house lot was to triple in development. One of the major goals of this design was to give each individual unit its own space, while also bringing together the tenants with a shared courtyard space. The form of the additional units was inspired by Haus Gables by Jennifer Bonner. It began with a high gable roof and pushed and pulled the edges to create a skewed traditional look.
