ABOUT ME:

Hi! My name is Virginia Hammond. I’m from Bentonville, Arkansas. I’m currently in my final year of a five-year architecture degree plan at the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design at the University of Arkansas. I am majoring in architecture and minoring in interior design. I am an honors student and will be graduating magna cum laude in May 2024.

I became interested in architecture in middle school. I was fascinated by how pretty old chapels are. In junior high, I job shadowed an architect for two days and was intrigued by the commercial work that the firm did. In high school, I took three years of drafting classes and placed as a finalist in a national architecture competition by Chicago Discover Design.

During my senior year of high school, I connected with BRR Architecture in Bentonville and began interning at their office part-time. I worked there the summer after high school, and I also worked as a full-time intern over the summer before my third year of school. I worked on formatting, producing, and drawing construction documents. The primary clients I worked with were Walmart and Sam’s Club. The summer before my fourth year, I interned with Verdant Studio. This allowed me to get experience in a smaller firm atmosphere with more varied clients such as smaller residential, mixed-use developments, and historic renovations. Finally, the summer before my final year of school, I interned full-time with SGA Design Group. The primary client I worked with there was Amazon. I have gained extensive experience in a variety of architectural types, and I look forward to continuing to broaden my experiences.
